Florals are the new black

I NEVER thought I’d say this (because I’ve always been more of a geometrics kind of person), but I’m really feeling the re-emergence of florals lately.  Everything from tiny Liberty prints to bold 1960’s flower power.  Everything these days seems to be coming up…roses.  (And peonies.  And daisies.  And dandelions.  And…)

And no, it’s not just because I managed to find some new wicker porch furniture that happened to have floral seat cushions.  (The print on those is only marginal, at best.)  Anyways…new florals.  Who knew, it would take this long for me to come around?  Perhaps it’s because of the wedding.  Perhaps it’s due to all the yard work I’ve been doing.

Spring flowers for a little garden update

Today I’m having a little pre-birthday bbq.  So in preparation I’ve been tidying up the house and doing little things to make it look more inviting from the outside as well…such as add some new flowers.  Here are the pics.  I love all of them so much…especially the blue salvia.

These are some hilarious lawn ornaments that Nick found.  I thought I’d put them out as a laugh.

Fall flowers

There’s just something wonderful about coming home and having flowers growing.  I love it.  This weekend we spent a little bit of time working in the front yard to trim the grass, pull a few weeds and replace the dead margiolds in the planter on the steps (at left).  N decided to try spraying beer on the lawn as a type of fertilizer because he’d heard this worked.  (I’m not sure where he heard it, or if it works.  I’ll have to report back on that.)

Anyways…the flowers in the planter and the neatly trimmed lawn make me smile every night when I get home and see them there.

Now if I could just get the backyard looking nice.  I went anti-organic and did some sort of Scott’s Weed-n-Seed to try and get rid of all the horrible weeds back there.  I would have gone a more organic route, but we have poison ivy growing in the yard, and I heard that stuff is supposed to kill it.  Meanwhile, I’m also trying to grow grass seed.  Hopefully I’ll have something nice to show on that soon.  Keep your fingers crossed.
